When Hate Trumps Individuality – We All Fail
We live in a society that has hit the reverse gear! Everything now is fueled by hate. Hate towards government, hate for authority, hate in the form of racism, sexism, hatred hidden within religion! Inequality towards gays! All of these headlines readily available for us to consume.
Remember the saying we are what we eat ? Well it’s just as true that we embody our thoughts, yet the struggle of society in todays hypermedia is that we have dumbed ourselves down to simply accept consumption of hate!
No matter where you turn, Twitter, CNN, Facebook, we are force feed negativity as if we are simply pigs ready to be slaughtered, yet I can’t help but think – that’s exactly what we are, and ironically WE ARE BUTCHERING OURSELVES!
Herd Behavior – an evolutionary trait that applies to more than just sheep and cattle. As defined, herd behavior describes how individuals in a group can act collectively without centralized direction. Think riots, think sporting events, think religious gatherings, think peer to peer decision making, judgement, and opinions structured by group think as opposed to individual thoughts.
This genetically encoded phenomenon is the corner-stone to our survival as a species, yet the caveat here is that it is proving detremental to society, our thoughts and sense of self are controlled and by an ever expanding media. Our opinions create factions of left or right! And once that line is drawn, we enter a civil war of opinion! Need an example ? Just read the comments section of the next NEWS HEADLINE! Perfect strangers belittleing each other, exhibiting ignorance, hatred, and narcisism!
Hate as a tool to control society has become a social tool at the micro level
Society has become a circus road show, where it’s all about the ACT! Everyone looking for their 30 seconds of fame compromising themselves, alienating their friends, family, social networks, culture, and social norms on the premise of INDIVIDUALITY – We say things like “haters gonna hate” – Surely the most stupid phrase in pop culture, yet society is so sculpted by such a strong, and sad word that is has become mainstream.
Enter Taylor Swift, and every other celebrity, or want to be celebrity – Yes you millenial I am talking about you and your damn Facebook posts, videos, and your self-compassion for victimhood!
HATE is being whore around liberally to essentially mean anyone who is critical, from the mild and offhand to the vitriolic. “Haters” is now an all-purpose word used by those feeling “hated” toward those who don’t automatically fall down to worship their pedicured feet!
And if you want to belong to a herd, or have fans, I mean haters, you have to perpetuate the hate and negativity! This is what society has become. You narcissist son of a bitch !!! Yes I hate you and everything you stand for! I HATE THE WORD HATE
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. – Martin Luther King, Jr.
“The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.” ― Friedrich Nietzsche

Social pressure can dramatically impair our ability to both weigh our choices logically and follow our gut instincts. When we ignore what we believe is right and really want—underneath our desire to avoid loss and look good—we set ourselves up for internal conflict and pain.
We are emotional beings, and that isn’t a bad thing. Our intuition is a powerful tool that helps us utilize our experience and life lessons. But it’s up to us to recognize when our emotions are leading us toward smart choices—and when they’re guiding us to choose for the crowd to the detriment of our happiness.
A GREAT EXAMPLE: You just broke up with a guy, and you run to your girlfriends for comfort, they are screaming for you to move on, forget about him, he’s no good, using overused trite phrases such as “if it’s meant to be it will be”. So what do you do ? Go with the majority thought or follow your heart ?
A GREAT EXAMPLE: Tony Fadell, former employee of General Magic and Phillips, envisioned a brand new MP3 player. Unlike the bulky flash memory-based MP3 players from Rio and other companies, Fadell wanted to deliver a small, hard drive-based player that was linked with a content delivery system where users could legally obtain and download music – RealNetworks and Phillips turned him down – APPLE, well the rest is history!
Imagine if he just listened to everyone who said NO! No Ipod,No Apple, No Iphone!
Individuality means staying true to your vision of what you want and who you are!
